Phantom Singer All Stars: La Poem reunited

Round 5. La Poem was reunited with a fantastic rendition.

In Round 5, members of quartets went back to their original teams. So did La Poem. This time the singers were asked to select a particular category (e.g., pop diva, world music, legend bands, king of pop, etc.). La Poem chose "pop diva," performing Rolling in the Deep originally sung by Adele. As the song was released in 2010, it swept through so many charts in the world, winning Grammy Awards, and being covered by numerous singers including another pop diva Aretha Franklin.

In the recording hall, people were asking "Are four male singers really going to sing this song?" I was also curious in watching TV. Will they pull this off?  

Yes, they pulled it off fantastically. In this performance, Chaehoon's vocal versatility particularly stood out. He led the performance overall.

I was wondering how this song was broken down by the four members. So, I compared Adele's original lyrics with La Poem's. As I was getting more analytical about this song, I was more and more amazed at La Poem's ability to reorganize a song like this and bring out their strengths. It was very intricately organized. La Poem must have practiced a lot to be used to that organization.

 

Here's how the song was parted by the four members.

To visualize the partition, different colors and thickness are used in the following manners:

Sunghoon in blue, Chaehoon in red, Minseong in orange, Kihun in pink;
Sunghoon and Chaehoon together in purple, Minseong and Kihun together in brown;
Three-member chorus in black; and
all members together in thick black.

The colors change very frequently. This change added more dynamic vibes to the song. Even when all members were singing together, one singer was going more forcefully than the others, giving the song different layers of sound. 

This cover song dropped quite a few chorus parts that were present in the original version. It makes sense that the quartet already has diverse vocal colors and didn't need many parts of chorus.

The most remarkable attempt in this song was the key change that they made at the last chorus after "We could have had it." After the key change, they were heading toward the end in full force. It gave the audience a big thrill.

I did not recognize how difficult this rendition must have been for the four singers until taking a closer look at the partition of this song. Their excellence is beyond my expectation. I'd like to send my sincere shoutout to La Poem's efforts and excellence.
