Phantom Singer All Stars: Never-seen combinations of teams

Round 4. A newly-made duet took us to a wild forest. 

In Round 4, there were no more team competitions but season competitions, meaning that quartets formed in the same season had to be regrouped with new singers and perform for the victory of their Phantom Singer season. Because there are 12 singers for each season, they were asked to form two duets and two quartets, with the rule that the original quartets could not remain the same. 

Chaehoon was paired with John Noh of Rabidance, which was a never-seen combination of a duet. 

Following a duet performance of a Season-2 team, Chaehoon and John, calling themselves Yoo-ah-dok-Jon (유아독존), performed a song "Bon Voyage" originally sung by YooA. Prior to their performance, simply introducing the song to the audience brought quite a stir because it was an idol-group song. Two classically trained singers were about to sing an idol-group song. 

Chaehoon and John performed well together. They put quite a few twists (such as rap, mash-up with the symphony "From the New World", and even dance moves) on this song.

My initial reaction to this song was "Wow, very interesting!" It's a song of two excellent singers, and they certainly did not let us down. But, I thought I had to listen more. There were many attempts in this song. Listening one time wasn't enough to appreciate the full details of the song. In other words, I wasn't hooked but very intrigued. Probably, many people felt like I did. 

Kwon, Taeeun (music director of Phantom Singer) shared his thoughts about this song in his instagram: 

"I think that crossover is to open up and accept all possibilities and let them out." He continued, "... I have been working as a music director for ten years. I always have a strong desire to do something new." As referring to this song, he wrote, "Although it's all jumbled together and doesn't fit into the formula, I am grateful that I was able to create the music and keep a record of it."

The more I listen to this song, the more it grows on me. Now I listen to this song as a wake-up song. Bon Voyage by You Chaehoon and John Noh--what a breath of fresh air!
